Martin Auer

Martin Auer was born in Vienna in 1951. He attended the university where he studied German and History for a year and then spent another year studying interpreting. Instead, he played theater. Was an actor, dramaturge and musician at the "Theater im Künstlerhaus" for seven years. Then founded a band. Has appeared as a songwriter. Has given guitar lessons. Prepared the world revolution (for free). As a copywriter for advertising and public relations, exaggerated, propagated the untrue and one-sided (for money). Worked for newspapers. Become a magician. Has made an appearance at company parties and children's birthday parties. Has also written a children's book at some point. This was published in 1986. Since then, he considers himself a writer and has therefore written over forty more books, about two thirds of them for children. Also get some prices, e.g. the Children's Book Prize of the Minister of Culture of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1990, the Austrian Children and Youth Book Prize in 1994, 1998 and 2000, the prize of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport (which at that time was also responsible for science and art) in 1996 and the Youth Book Prize of the City of Vienna in 1997 and 2002. He was nominated for the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis 1997, and for the international Hans Christian Andersen Prize 1997. In 2005, he was awarded the title of Professor for services to the Republic of Austria, which he finds honorable, but also somehow funny.
