Ruth Wodak

Ruth Wodak (born July 12, 1950 in London) is an Austrian linguist. The former professor at the Universities of Vienna and Lancaster is one of the best-known representatives of critical discourse analysis. Her main topics range from prejudice research and discrimination against women to European identity. In 1996 Ruth Wodak was awarded the Wittgenstein Prize. Wodak's latest book, "The Politics of Fear", was published in 2016. In it, she focuses on the discourse, the rhetoric, the execution and the argumentation of populist politicians in Europe. In particular, she examines the dependencies between politics and the media. Ruth Wodak was awarded the Vienna Women's Prize in 2006 for her special achievements in research and science.
