Michael Rendi

Head of Department IV.1 Citizens’ Service and Crisis Management Abroad Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs Mr Michael Rendi was born in Vienna on 9 October 1964. He joined the Austrian Foreign Service in August 1992. Mr Rendi commenced his diplomatic career in the Department for Southern Europe and South Tyrol. Following initial assignments at the Austrian Embassies in Damascus and Helsinki as well as in the Department for International Organizations he took up his post as First Secretary at the Austrian Embassy in London in October 1995 with consecutive responsibilities for political affairs and public diplomacy. Back in Vienna in 1999, Mr Rendi worked in the Political Section’s Coordination & CFSP Unit and became European Correspondent in 2001. In early 2002, Mr Rendi was appointed Head of the Permanent Secretary General’s Office, with overall co-ordination responsibilities for the Ministry, a position he held for almost six years. Simultaneously Mr Rendi acted as Deputy Head of Mission, later Chargé d’Affaires, at the Austrian Embassy in the Principality of Liechtenstein with seat in Vienna. Mr Rendi was appointed Austrian Ambassador to the State of Israel in 2007. He returned to the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs in September 2011 and became Director for International Organizations with overarching responsibility for United Nations affairs. In May 2016, Ambassador Rendi moved to the Federal Chancellery as Chief of Staff of the new Austrian Federal Minister for Arts, Culture, Constitution and Media. Since January 2018, Mr Rendi is Head of Department IV.1 - Citizens’ Service and Crisis Management within the Consular Directorate of the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs. Mr Rendi is married and father of two daughters.
