Gerhard Roth

Gerhard Roth, born on June 24th, 1942 in Graz, author. After skipping his medical studies Roth worked as a programmer and later as the organization manager in the Graz data center. From the early 1970s onwards Roth published experimental prose ("the autobiography of albert einstein"). In 1991 he published his 7-volume cycle "The Archives of Silence". In this cycle, which is dedicated to the recent history of Austria, the first book was published in 1980: "The quiet ocean" (a film adaptation by Xaver Schwarzenberger won the Silver Bear of the Berlinale in 1983). From 1995 to 2011, the volumes of the "Orcus" cycle and the two commemorative volumes "The Alphabet of Time" and "Orcus - Journey to the Dead" were published. In addition to the novels, his "portraits" and numerous stories, plays and film scripts emerged. But Gerhard Roth also has taken photographs for many years and maintains a comprehensive collection of photo notes. Gerhard Roth is one of the most important and internationally renowned Austrian writers. He has received numerous awards for his literary work and clear political stance.
